Gemini vs. Command

Overview

Gemini is Google's multimodal model family for consumer, developer, and enterprise applications. The current generation includes Gemini 3.5 for fast agentic workflows and Gemini 3.1 Pro for complex reasoning.

Google introduced Bard in March 2023 and renamed the product Gemini in February 2024. The Gemini family combines text, image, audio, video, code, and tool-use capabilities across the Gemini app, Gemini API, Vertex AI, and Google's productivity products. Gemini 3.1 Pro arrived in February 2026, followed by the faster Gemini 3.5 generation at Google I/O 2026.

Overview

Command is Cohere's enterprise model family for agents, retrieval-augmented generation, multilingual work, and private deployment. Command A+ is the current open-weight generation.

Cohere develops enterprise language models with an emphasis on retrieval, citations, multilingual applications, tool use, and data sovereignty. Command A+, released in May 2026, is a 218B-parameter mixture-of-experts model with 25B active parameters. It supports text and image input, reasoning, agentic workflows, 48 languages, and private deployment under the Apache 2.0 license.
